The setup questions run on the web app first, and are coming to mobile. The settings they change are shared, so whichever device you answer on, the result applies to your whole studio.
The first time you open your dashboard, Tattoo Studio Pro asks a few short questions about how your studio runs, then sets matching defaults for you. It takes about fifteen seconds and saves you hunting through Settings for toggles whose names only make sense once you have used them.
This article explains exactly what each answer changes, so nothing is a mystery.
Nothing is saved until the last screen. If you close the setup partway through, no settings change and you will be asked again next time. You can also skip it entirely and keep the standard defaults.
Only the studio owner or manager sees these questions, and only once per studio. If one manager answers, nobody else on the team is asked.
Question 1: How does your studio run?
Pick the option closest to your day to day. This one does not change a setting on its own. It chooses the suggested answers for the questions that follow, and tailors your setup checklist so you are not prompted to do things that do not apply to you. A solo artist is never asked to invite a team, for example.
- Just me. Solo artist, your own device, you handle everything yourself.
- Small team. A few of you, sharing devices as you go.
- Busy shop. Steady walk-ins, a tablet clients fill in themselves.
Every answer after this is marked Suggested based on your pick, and you can change any of them on the spot. If none of the three is a perfect fit, choose the closest and adjust the next two screens.
For a deeper look at how studios actually set up their devices, see Studio Workflows.
Question 2: Who takes the client’s photo ID?
- The client does it themselves. They can upload it on the web form before they arrive, or photograph it on your device in the studio as part of filling in their form.
- Someone here photographs it. Your team captures the ID on a studio device instead.
Either way, you can check, retake or delete a photo ID at any point right up until the signed PDF is saved. Choosing client capture does not remove your control over it.
What this changes in Settings. This single answer sets two preferences together, because they are the same decision on two different surfaces:
| Preference | Where it applies |
|---|---|
| Enable online photo ID upload | The web form, before the client arrives |
| Enable ID First | In the studio, on your own device |
Most studios are best served by letting the client do it. If your local regulations require you to have the physical ID in hand and check it yourself, choose the second option.
Question 3: When a client fills in their form, is someone with them?
This is about your room, not a feature. It decides what happens the moment a client finishes their form.
- Yes, we’re one on one. An artist or someone at the desk is with them. They hand the device straight back and you finish the form together, there and then.
- No, they fill it in on their own. The form is added to the queue for a team member to open when they are ready.
If a client is ever left alone with the device, choose the second option. This matters more than it sounds. The first option hands the session straight back to a team member, which is exactly right when you are sitting with the client and wrong if you have handed a tablet over and walked away. A client on their own cannot complete that handover.
If you run a client-facing kiosk, or your setup is sometimes one on one and sometimes not, pick No, they fill it in on their own. It is the safe answer for both.
What this changes in Settings. This sets the Skip the Queue preference. Choosing “one on one” turns it on. See Queue Management for how the queue works day to day, and Kiosk Lock and Auto-Lock if you hand a device to clients.
The summary screen
The last screen shows everything you have chosen before anything is saved. Read it, then confirm. This is the only point at which your settings change.
Changing any of it later
Nothing here is permanent. Go to Settings, then Preferences, and every one of these toggles is there under its own name:
- Enable online photo ID upload and Enable ID First, under Client Information and Workflow
- Skip the Queue, under Workflow
Change them whenever your studio changes. The setup questions are a shortcut for getting started, not a lock on how you work.
If you skipped the setup
Skipping is fine. Your studio keeps the standard defaults and you will not be asked again. Everything above is still available in Settings, then Preferences, whenever you want to adjust it.
